Dr William C Smith

William C. Smith is a Senior Lecturer in Education and International Development and current Director of Internationalisation at the Moray House School of Education and Sport, University of Edinburgh.

He coordinates the school’s work in comparative education and international development (CEID) and in his own work explores how global pressures and national policies shape education, with a focus on access and equity issues for the most marginalised. He has previously worked as a Senior Policy Analyst at UNESCO’s Global Education Monitoring Report and a Thomas J. Alexander Fellow at the OECD. He has published over 50 research articles, chapters, and reports and has completed consultant work with a range of organisations including World Vision International, UNESCO Institute for Statistics, The International Task Force on Teachers for Education 2030, the Education Policy Institute, and the Scotland COVID-19 Inquiry amongst others.
