Dr Julia Sattler

Julia is an experienced practitioner, researcher and consultant in international cultural relations and has held senior leadership positions with the Goethe-Institut in Ethiopia and Syria.

Julia has managed numerous international projects, amongst them a perennial gaming project with interdisciplinary teams across 15 African countries, leading to a joint African game which gained recognition at Gamescom in 2019 (www.goethe.de/enterafrica).

As consultant for EUNIC (European Union National Institutes for Culture) she has evaluated the programme European Spaces of Culture and developed policy recommendations for the EU’s international cultural relations approach.

Julia’s academic interest focuses on international cultural relations as a collaborative, inclusive and non-hierarchical approach to international relations. Her recent research deals with the relationship between the organisational structure of an institution and its ability to successfully pursue international cultural relations. Julia holds a PhD in international relations from the Free University Berlin.
